Antiviral drug treatment is one method of trying to control an outbreak of a disease transmitted by a virus. However, this treatment may lead to the establishment of a drug-resistant strain of the disease. We describe and analyze a simple model for this, and show that there are situations in which an increase of the treatment rate may cause an increase in the number of disease cases. |
