| The rapid growth of social media and their potential
use in public health practice has generated a lot of interest among
public health professionals. The first half of this presentation
will provide a brief overview of the recent applications of social
media data analysis in public health. The second half of this
presentation will be a work-in-progress presentation of our group's
recent analysis on Weibo data, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
While social media may facilitate potential disease outbreak
detection, I would suggest that they also allow public health
professionals to better understand online public health
communications, in both quantitative and qualitative manners. |
